A lakeside retreat for all seasons
Falun Strandby sits on Främby Udde overlooking Lake Runn, just a few miles south of Söderfors. It’s one of the region’s finest swimming spots — a combined camping, bathing and activity facility that manages to be just as cosy in winter as in summer.
The place itself is described as a “stunningly beautiful idyll”. There are cabins (around fifty of them), a sauna complex and a public beach. The cabins are well equipped with kitchens, showers and terraces with grills — perfect for families or larger groups wanting to settle in for a while.
What can you do here?
- Summer swimming — Obviously. Runn is a large, beautiful lake, and the beach here is both lovely and well maintained.
- Canoeing — You can rent canoes and explore the lake at your own pace.
- Sauna — Both a traditional sauna and a floating sauna are available to rent. There’s something especially nice about sitting in the sauna with panoramic views across the water.
- Winter sports — In winter, Runn becomes an ice-skating rink. Ice fishing is also possible.
- Grilling — Sausages and roasted pork are the classics here, and almost all cabins have their own grill.
Who is it for?
Families after a relaxed camping holiday with the option to stay a few days. Groups of friends looking for a place with both swimming and activities. Lake lovers who prefer something less crowded than the standard swimming spots closer to central Uppsala.
It has a rating of 4.4 out of 5, based on around thirty reviews. Most visitors praise the place as well maintained, beautiful and suitable for longer stays.
