A classic that endures
Güntherskas name speaks for itself if you grew up or live in the area. This is the place in Uppsala when it comes to baked goods and sweets — and rightly so. When you walk in, you’re met by a warm red, cosy café with room for both a quick fika and a more leisurely lunch.
The bakery sits beautifully by the river in Uppsala’s city centre, on Östra Ågatan. From Söderfors it’s roughly a 30-minute drive north.
What to order
Güntherskas semlas are world-famous — they actually won UNT’s semla competition in recent years. A Princess Semla or a classic version delivers on both taste and quality. The prices are fair for what you get.
But that’s not all. The pastries are light and moist — Olles snurra is a favourite that keeps coming up in reviews from long-time regulars. Pizza and hot dishes are also on the menu, so it works for a quick coffee or a more substantial meal.
The atmosphere
Cosy and Swedish, and popular. Often lively and full of people of all ages — from pensioners to families with small children. It’s the kind of place where you can tell many have been coming here long before you arrived, and many stop by because it’s a natural hub. Well maintained, clean and welcoming.
