Lövstabruk

A glimpse of works heritage

Lövstabruk lies about 25 km south of Söderfors, along Nedre Dalälven, and is one of the well-preserved works settlements that characterize this entire part of Uppland. A substantial industrial community grew here during the 18th and 19th centuries, driven by iron production and workshops along the river.

What makes Lövstabruk special?

Unlike many other works that have nearly vanished, Lövstabruk lives on as a real community — not just a museum. You can see workers’ cottages, main buildings and old factories in their original setting, which gives an authentic feel for how life looked here a hundred years ago.

The area is perfect for:

  • Industrial history enthusiasts — see how a works economy was built and operated
  • Families on an outing — the river offers beautiful walks and spots to pause by the water
  • Photographers — works architecture and natural surroundings create fine subjects in every season

What can you do here?

Wander around and explore the buildings, take a walk along Dalälven, or simply sit down and enjoy the peaceful works settlement. Many of the old houses are privately owned homes, but there is also information about the works’ history on site.
