A trip through agricultural history
Viksta traktormuseum sits deep in the countryside outside Björklinge, roughly 30 km north of Söderfors. It’s not a museum built to impress with slick displays – it’s a genuine collector’s paradise for anyone who loves old tractors and farm history.
Here you’ll find a real sea of tractors from different eras and makers. It’s fascinating to see how design has evolved over the decades, from the first massive iron machines to the sleeker forms that came later. But it’s far from tractors alone.
More than just tractors
The museum tells a broad story of what countryside life used to be like. There are bicycles, chainsaws, old telephones, vacuum cleaners, milk separators, milk churns, horse-drawn carts, and stacks of farm equipment that made the work possible. There’s also a vintage fire engine to look at, and outside you can explore various buildings packed with objects.
Even if you’re not a tractor enthusiast, you’ll be surprised by how much nostalgia and food for thought there is here – the longer you wander around, the more you realize how much has changed.
Perfect for families
The big plus for families with children is that many of the tractors can actually be climbed on and sat in. There are also small pedal tractors for the youngest machine enthusiasts. A giant outdoor chess set, grassy parking area, and both indoor and outdoor benches for a coffee break make it easy to stay a while and soak in the atmosphere.
There’s a café and ice cream stand at the museum, though opening hours can be limited. Toilets are available on the grounds, and the place is wheelchair accessible with a ramp.
Practical tips
The museum is quite remote, reached by narrow and winding roads, so drive carefully and allow yourself plenty of time. Open only Tuesday 09:00–15:00 and Saturday–Sunday 11:00–16:00. It can be a bit muddy here and there – but that’s part of the charm when you’re talking tractors and farm history.
